Team Charter

One of our first steps in undertaking this project was to agree between ourselves how we wanted to work as a team — our goals for the project, what we expected from ourselves and our teammates and how we would reach our end goals. We captured this in our team charter, a collaborative document where we could discuss and agree on problems we might face and how to overcome them.

Our team charter

We prioritised respect and communication, and wanted to use this project as an opportunity to learn new skills, and to create something we all felt we had added a meaningful contribution to, both in work load and creatively.

I think we were successful in following the broader strokes of our team charter — we had good open communication and we were respectful of others ideas, while not overly precious of our own. Our roles within the team changed over time and were not as defined as we initially intended.

Project Timeline

Outlined here is our rough project timeline. We met every Tuesday and Wednesday for class and generally once or twice outside of class per week. For each task we created boards on collaboration tools (largely Mural and Figma) to share our individual work, and discuss it as a group. We compiled our work together to identify what needed iteration, or what insights could be reached.

Our project timeline outlined.

One of the most noteworthy milestones in our project was when it came to designing the map screen of the application — where the user could scan the map and see available parking. We had all interpreted our research and to-be scenarios in a slightly different way and had different ideas for implementation. As this was the home screen, and by far the most prominent screen of the application we decided each to do an iteration of it and comparing them, finding commonalities and understanding each others innovations. This was a direct response to us prioritising in our team charter that every member of the teams ideas should be heard and given due consideration.

Our individual iterations of the home screen. The final design took aspects from many of our individual designs.

Combining these allowed us to arrive at a final design that was representative of our creative vision as a whole, and incorporated some of the best aspects from each.
